Man arrested for 1979 murder of Etan Patz in SoHo

As of this morning, the NYPD now has in custody a man who implicated himself in the 1979 murder of Etan Patz. The man, 51-year-old Pedro Hernandez, said he lured Etan into the bodega that he worked at at the time and then strangled and put the boy’s body in a bag to be collected for trash.

Details are still coming in and an investigation is ongoing, but this may be the start to an end on a 33-year-old cold case.

skippingheart: rest in peace etan patz.  may your murderer get karma & justice! Hernandez, who was a teenage convenience store clerk at the time Etan went missing, now lives in Maple Shade, N.J. He was arrested Thursday after making a surprise confession in a case that has bedeviled investigators for 33 years. Hernandez told police he lured Etan into the basement of a convenience store with a promise of a soda, choked him to death, then stuffed his body in a bag and left it with trash on the street a block away. Finally found him.
